Opening Thursday, August 29th, from 5PM - 8PM
On view through Saturday, September 28th
Anthony Gallery is thrilled to announce February James’s solo presentation, Will Your Name Be My Love Song?, alongside Chicago artist Adeshola Makinde’s I SHOOK UP THE WORLD. A joint opening is slated for Thursday, August 29th at 5 p.m. at 1360 W. Lake Street, Chicago, IL 60607. This collection of works will be on display through September 28th, 2024.
February James’s Will Your Name Be My Love Song?, displayed in Gallery Room One, draws inspiration from the multifaceted nature of love and its capacity to challenge the masses. Whether a portrait deciphers the bond between parents, lovers, strangers, or friends, paintings reflect on the cyclical nature of relationships and the transformative powers they hold.
In Gallery Room Two, Adeshola Makinde’s I SHOOK UP THE WORLD reshapes the narrative of Black achievement by mining the historic archives of the Johnson Publishing Company. By sourcing images from iconic publications like Ebony and Jet magazines, he re-contextualizes visual records, cutting, splicing, and reprinting them to craft powerful portraits of influential Black figures.
These exhibitions will be open to the public from August 30th through September 28th, 2024, and admission is free. Visitors are encouraged to come and explore the works on display.
