Comfort Film Presents:

Commodity Trading: Dies Irae (2022)

A bad trip that replicates the dissolution of the self/government/family/body within the solvent of a white supremacist hyperreal suspension. M. Woods attempts to enter the Numb Spiral through the Great Incision of Oxoniae, lulled into the digital sickness to be with his doppelgänger. After entering a portal in a webcam site, he becomes Abraxas, recklessly seeking completion through The Numb Spiral. Meanwhile, Joshua enters the Numb Spiral through 9DVR, a game platform installed at Culver City’s Westfield Shopping Center. The White Father haunts Joshua until Joshua decides to burn down the White Father’s house in righteous anger.

COMMODITY TRADING: DIES IRAE by Chicago-based multi-disciplinary artist, M. Woods, is a surrealist nightmare contorting through a hyperreal labyrinth of protests, ruins, and disturbing visions of end-state Capitalism. Using swirling 16mm film, M. takes the spectator on a trip to the Desert of the Real, where the United States plunges into a hallucinatory zone of pure nothingness. While this is M’s first solo screening in Chicago, their body of work, collectively entitled The Numb Spiral, has screened extensively for the past decade including at IFFR, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, and the Flaherty Seminar.
