Danielle Andress & Hope Wang: Gateways

@ Roots & Culture

1034 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60622

Opening Friday, June 14th, from 6PM - 9PM

On view through Saturday, July 20th

Years in the making, Gateways brings together recent works by Chicago-based artists Danielle Andress and Hope Wang. Firmly rooted in the slow practice of weaving, this exhibition recontextualizes ordinary images and materials through woven systems. Finding meaning through process, both artists erect various and simultaneous screenshots of daily life encapsulated in woven form, offering new perspectives as they circumvent the preexisting architectures that govern everyday life.

Danielle Andress is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily in analog and digital woven forms and assemblage. Challenging systematic hierarchies, her work invokes various social histories, viral media, and material culture through radical making and slow craft. She is an Associate Professor in the Fiber and Material Studies department at the School of the Art institute of Chicago.

Hope Wang is a multimedia artist and creative entrepreneur, whose artwork explores memory, loss, and longing in the ever-shifting architectural landscape. She is the founding director of LMRM “loom room,” a digital weaving project space, center for community resources, and gathering place which serves the textile art communities of Chicago.
