Join curator Annelise K. Madsen and scholar Wanda M. Corn for a conversation on Georgia O’Keeffe. They will consider how the artist herself talked about Manhattan in relation to her life and career—from reflections on skyscraper living in the Shelton Hotel in the 1920s and 1930s to recollective views of New York in her late decades from her home in New Mexico.

This conversation is being held in conjunction with the highly anticipated exhibition, Georgia O’Keeffe: “My New Yorks.”

Wanda M. Corn, a scholar of early 20th-century American Art, is the Robert and Ruth Halperin Professor Emerita at Stanford University. In 2017 she published Georgia O’Keeffe, Living Modern (Prestel Press) and organized an exhibition of the same name that premiered at the Brooklyn Museum and went on to six more venues across the country. Her research has taken her often to O’Keeffe’s two homes, archives, and museum in New Mexico. In 1980 she interviewed the artist for a chapter in her earlier study, The Great American Thing: Modern Art and American Identity, 1915–35 (University of California Press, 1999). Her new book, The Couple with the Pitchfork: From Local Folk to Global Icon, will be published in 2025.
