3015 W Division St, Chicago, IL 60622
Opening Friday, May 31st, from 11AM - 12AM
On view through Saturday, June 1st
Don’t miss the rare chance to witness a Taíno Areyto, a ceremonial dance of the Taino, the indigenous people of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti/Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas. Twenty members of the Concilio Taíno Guatu-Ma-cu A Borikén (Puerto Rico) are bringing this performance to Chicago for the first time! It’s a unique opportunity to learn about the Taíno Indigenous people of Puerto Rico (Borikén) and their rich traditions.
This performance is a highlight of our exhibition, ¡Taíno Vive! Caribbean Indigenous Resistance, in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institute, the Field Museum, and the Concilio Taíno Guatu-Ma-cu A Borikén. We will set up a tent with seating on our beautiful lawn to recreate a Batey-like space for this historic ceremony.
For the Friday, May 31st performance at 11AM ONLY, Schools and Senior Centers do not have to make a donation and should email VeronicaO@nmprac.org to coordinate receiving tickets for your group. A group is 10+ people.
Two performances:
