Reflections of a Young Woman: Photographs from the Archive of Shigeko Kumamoto
An Exhibition By Ken Carl featuring the work of Shigeko Kumamoto
Curated By Christina Hiromi Hobbs
Join us for our Opening Reception on April 28th to view the images of Shigeko Kumomoto and the works of Ken Carl. This exhibition features images from Shigeko’s photographic diary, a Japanese American 14-year-old girl who was interned by the United States government in 1943. During her time, she produced an intimate record of family, friends, and love interests. Despite the difficulties presented to her and her family, the works in the exhibition speak to the unknowability of this collective experience and the power of this young girl to find sweetness and resilience.
