The Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago and Block Cinema present a special screening of LA CHIMERA, the newest film by acclaimed Italian director Alice Rohrwacher (THE WONDERS, HAPPY AS LAZZARO). A chimera is an impossible-to-gain desire and for the young, roguish Englishman Arthur (Josh O’Connor, THE CROWN) it is his lost-love Beniamina (Yile Yara Vianello). Just out of prison, Arthur travels to a rural Italian town where he teams up with a group of tombaroli (tomb raiders), using his gift for divination to help them find valuable Etruscan antiquities, all the while haunted by memories of Beniamina. Past and present, reality and myth all blur in Arthur’s quest for the unobtainable. Rohrwacher’s beautifully-realized film continues her trademark use of magical realism set against everyday existence in rural Italy. Also starring are Isabella Rossellini, Carol Duarte, and the director’s sister, Alba Rohrwacher.
