Feb 23rd 2024

Join poet S. J. Ghaus for a poetry workshop on solidarity and witnessing. How do we write towards collective resistance — towards a practice of witness that brings us closer to each other and against the powers that attempt to divide us? How can our writing — our craft, our process, our publishing methods — work in concert with the urgency of this moment of genocide in Palestine and state violence around the world? We’ll talk, read, and create together in response to these questions and more.

S. J. Ghaus is a Pakistani American writer, artist, and cultural worker for the people. They are a Tin House alum and former resident, VONA/Voices of Our Nations fellow, and recipient of the 2020 Vera Meyer Strube Prize from the Academy of American Poets. An award-winning teacher and long-time organizer, they currently run a poetry and organizing series in solidarity with Palestine called In Water & Light. You can read their essays, comics, and poems at poets.org, Poetry Daily, NPR, Ecotone, Pleiades, and elsewhere. They hold an MFA from Indiana University.
