The CLEAT Series focuses on work composed for the 16-channel speaker system in our space, allowing audiences to experience different approaches to spatial audio. This month we’ll see solo performances from Brad Robin and Scott Rubin. Robin will present a new work called Becoming, a series multimedia works celebrates the difficulties and rewards of deep emotional work by exhibiting the richness of internal and external dynamics of relationships, both within oneself and through others. We’re excited to see how these two wonderful artists approach spatial audio on the CLEAT system!
Artist Bios
Brad Robin is a composer, pianist, programmer, and sound artist with a wide range of interests, creating and performing in numerous genres including jazz, classical, electroacoustic, contemporary, and popular mediums, as well as traditional and experimental intermedia theatre. Often while merging media into the world of theater, dance, and video, his music produces visceral experiences integrating musical and naturally occurring sounds and images. He creates fabrics of sound, streams of water and glass, and natural and electronic air. The music swirls, bites, and caresses, creating an immersive experience for performers and audience. His music has been performed at national and international festivals including ICMC, SEAMUS, and NYCEMF. His recent work Spread for piano and live electronics received 2nd place in the Golden Key National Piano Composition Competition, appears RMN Classical’s Call of Piano Works 2020, His live piano improvisations album, Release, is available through Naxos on the Centaur label. He will tonight present Becoming, a series of multimedia works celebrates the difficulties and rewards of deep emotional work by exhibiting the richness of internal and external dynamics of relationships, both within oneself and through others. Realities are questioned, discoveries made, and empowerment achieved through release from the bondage of the past.
Scott Rubin is a interdisciplinary artist and improvising violist whose work interrogates relationships between sound and movement through analog and digital means. His recent projects have involved collaborations with musicians and dancers, often incorporating interactive acoustic/electronic improvisation, expanded performance practices, motion-sensors, and live video. In these projects, he engages themes of intimacy, control, and the sublime.
