â Gordon Fung
In collaboration with Allen Moore and Ryan Dunn, Gordon Fungâs video setup, a set of obsolete video mixers and cassette camcorders, amplifies their performative gestures. Mooreâs and Dunnâs practices focus on turntable and hacked tape machine respectively. Alongside his video equipment that sonifies visuals and visualizes sound, the analog trio mutually enhances each otherâs audiovisual existence. The amplified sensation and perception create a collective and immersive experience where audiences can explore expanded consciousness through our real-time interaction with analog technologies.
Gordon Fung (b. 1988, San Francisco) is a transdisciplinary artist who primarily works with multi-/new media performances, experimental film/video, noise music, DIY electronics, installations, media archaeology, and curatorial/collaborative practices. His works highlight unconventional executions like equipment misusing, noises, lo-fi presentations, and glitches. Such aesthetics confronts the viewersâ understanding, perspective, and point of view on reality through a more philosophical, if not esoteric, investigation.
To expand the possibilities of artistic idioms, he intertwines both analog and digital technologiesâalso to signify the co-existence of mundane and spiritual worlds. By overloading software and hardware, he collapses the two worlds to expand the audienceâs perception of reality. As a break-maker, he deliberately misuses electronic equipment and software to regain consumersâ sense of agency through artistic means. Through media archeology, he strives to unearth concealed potentials of obsolete equipment and to revive them to artistic life.

â Instinct Control is a project of Ryan ⥠Dunn primarily utilizing the unintended, soul-salvage of planned obsolescence through direct physical contact with the circuitry of tape players. Instinct Control considers instrumentality, expectations and the musicianâs gestureâresisting the implied philosophies of settings, knobs, planned instruments, reveling in chance and dialogue, performing sound with an object that is fickle to changes in environment and performer.
Ryan ⥠Dunn is a media and performance artist considering the implications and manipulation of mediation and communication. He is invested in open culture, expanded field interventions, and the primacy of experience as product. His practice is inherently collaborative, redefining the roles of creativity and pedagogy as both inexorably intertwined and problematically so. He has a BA from Reed College, an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is co-founder and Director of Tritriangle since 2012, an alternative performative media space in Chicagoâs Wicker Park.
