You are invited to the opening reception of Snapshots: Art Begetting Art
“I have been writing since before I knew how to properly form letters. I have been writing since before I knew how to string together words that would create meaning. When I was three or four years old, as the youngest of five living in a too tiny house, I claimed the family’s then unused doghouse as my own personal space. I would take my dad’s pocket-sized notebooks and snag a pencil from one of my siblings and sit criss-cross applesauce scribbling what to me were stories like the ones I loved to hear. When I was three or four years old, I knew I wanted to someday create the books I loved for other little Black girls in other places sitting in wonder like myself.” -slm
This show is in part a step along a circuitous path that has led me to completing the manuscript of my memoir and sending it into the universe in hopes of securing a publishing contract. I am intrigued to see what art is created using my words as inspiration. As we know, Art begets Art.
