Ariella Granados: Disabling Utopia

Disabling Utopia is a photo series that showcases people with disabilities channeling alter egos inside miniature dioramas that are representations of their utopia. In conjunction to the photo series, there is also a video component that documents conversations exploring ideas around disability identity and imagining a disabled utopia.

Ariella Granados is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago. This project was originally presented by Granados as the inaugural Artist-in-Residence at the Central West Center with the city of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities. Disabling Utopia is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment of the Arts.
