Since 2020 Jose Luis Benavides and Amanda Cervantes have investigated the Amigas Latinas archive held at Gerber/Hart! With generous support from 3Arts’ Ignite Fund grant, Luis and Amanda have created a beautiful exhibition, Amigas Latinas Forever, with original artworks responding to the archive.
Join the Chicago Public Library for an Artist Talk with Jose Luis Benavides and Amanda Cervantes about their work with the Amigas Latinas collection. Luis and Amanda will be joined in conversation by Jen Dentel from Gerber/Hart.
Luis and Amanda will discuss their creative process, collaborations, and the work of bringing archives to life. Jen will discuss programming and access to collections at Gerber/Hart and the many ways the Amigas Latinas collection has been enriched through the work of artists and researchers.
Amigas Latinas (which existed from 1995 to 2015) was a Chicagoland Latina Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans, and Questioning support, education, and advocacy organization that offered many events and services over its 20-year existence.
