A Brief History of Chasing Storms: a screening by Curtis Miller
Curtis Miller is an artist and educator working across film, video, photography, and publication. His films have screened at the Centre for Contemporary Arts – Glasgow, EXIS – Seoul, Fracto – Berlin, Winnipeg Underground Film Festival, , Chicago Underground Film Festival, ICDOCS, the Hyde Park Arts Center – Chicago, and Renaissance TV – Renaissance Society, Chicago, among others.
For his second edition of Soapbox, Miller presents a recent short film and in-progress update of his on-going project A Brief History of Chasing Storms.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF CHASING STORMS is a feature-length experimental documentary exploring the Southern American plains through its weather. Combining portraiture, travelogue, and landscape vignettes, A BRIEF HISTORY searches in hybrid essayistic form to reveal the complexities of a region continuously rewritten through migration, colonization, and increasingly severe weather phenomena.
This project is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.
