Photography is a way for artists to extend themselves. However, what is it for the audience? When the audience looks at a photograph, are they merely looking at their self-reflection? Are they aspiring to apply some level of training or expertise to analyze the image? Or are they looking for the artist in it?
“My Body is a Temple” is an exhibition of 20 artists that were invited to share their understanding and expression of self and body. Through a series of self-portraits, the artists show artworks that intentionally present the artists themselves. Challenging the typical way of appreciating art which forces audiences to get lost in thinking about an interpretation or context of the works, “My Body is a Temple” encourages audiences to instead get lost viewing the artists themselves.
