FINDING CEREMONY
Inspired by this unique structure, Finding Ceremony will highlight artists from across the city with an emphasis on West and South side cultural production through an art exhibition, performances, and cultural events at Austin Town Hall from September 16th through October 22nd, 2022. Anchor invites a constellation of local talent to build reciprocal relationships with neighbors, local stakeholders, and each other through the collective activation of public parks. Anchor is funded in part by the Walder Foundation, the Builders Initiative, and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE).

A site of refuge and grounding, this inaugural iteration of the Anchor Curatorial Residency investigates present-day geographies of collective anchoring; we invite the local community to explore ways of finding our footing, recharting and reclaiming Black and Brown relations to public spaces and each other.

Finding Ceremony is also proudly designed in collaboration with community stewards Dushaun Branch, Jasmin Graham, Dianna C. Long, and Emone Moore.

ANCHOR CURATORIAL RESIDENCY
We at the Arts & Culture Unit / Chicago Creatives Network are pleased to present The Anchor Curatorial Residency – a funded, itinerant residency for community-based curation practices on Chicago’s South and West sides. Led by 2022 Curator-in-Residence, Tiffany M. Johnson, the inaugural program – Finding Ceremony, examines the tension between safety, care, and (in)visibility of Black and Brown lives in public space. A central tenet of Anchor centers on an inclusive, multidisciplinary approach, “anchored” by a mobile outdoor exhibition and performance venue designed by Walmer Saavedra of Human Scale and fabricated by Andrea Yarbrough of In Care of Black Women.

Hours of Operation: Mon- Fri 11- 7 pm, Sat 11- 5 pm, Closed Sundays
