Produce Model is proud to present Night Swim, a two person exhibition by Madeline Gallucci and Elissa Osterland. Through reflections of mirrors and home movies, the artists adjust our focus.
Imagery in the exhibition suggests an arm reaching, a bow tie, a word or a half word. It might be a figure or it might be a door closing; your neighbors slow dancing at a wedding, the memory revealed through pressed graphite. Hints of your lover’s initials are carved into a mirror, a sharp relief translated through paint on canvas. Holding your breath – coming up for air – holding your breath – coming up for air: you wonder if the water gets deeper as the night gets darker.
Gallucci and Osterland share a practice of attention — silence, abstraction, memories and collective histories are explored through painting, printmaking and sculpture. As active observers in their respective worlds, they create new meaning between objects and images in an attempt to fill in the gaps of what is no longer there.
