Jul 10th 2021

Our third and final workshop with our Astral Resident Tiny Domingos will take place on Zoom on Saturday July 10th, 10 AM CDT (Chicago time) and 5 PM CET (Berlin time).

Please email us if you are interested in joining!

The objective of the workshop is to imagine possible futures using the sensitivity, attention, and imagination of each participant in a perspective of remediation and bridging the gap between culture and nature. Everyone is invited to participate. No prior knowledge or certain technologies are required. Short texts and exercises are provided. The artistic productions of the workshop may be part of documentation that will be made available to the public.

In the first session (June 12) we talked about the evolution of life on our planet, the discovery of symbiogenesis (Lynn Margulis) and the interconnection of all living things, the Gaia theory according to James Lovelock and the concept of Critical Zone. We also talk about hybridism and identity as constant transformation, about the first fish that began to explore the land in the Devonian Era and all the anatomical transformations that this brought about. The Axolotl is another fascinating example of metamorphosis and return to the primordial state.

In the second session, we talked about Donna Haraway and “making kin”, the relevance and actuality of cosmologies and ancestral knowledge of indigenous peoples, Michel Serres (The Natural Contract) and Bruno Latour. We read the text “Cosmic twins” by Emanuele Coccia and evoked our links with more-than-human life forms through personal reflections and original creations about the crow and the monarch butterfly. We also talk about the porosity of borders and the illusion of security of walls and barriers, the extreme richness in biodiversity, and mutations of mangroves, riverbanks, and swamps.
The theme of the third session will be plants and trees and how we can initiate or improve our communication with them. We will continue our readings, our common reflections and present our new creations. This is just the beginning of a conversation. We intend to collect all the material created within this workshop for public dissemination. There is also the possibility of holding an exhibition at Compound Yellow space at a date to be announced. Send us an email if you would like to join us in this journey.
