Multidisciplinary artist, curator, educator, and storyteller Alexandra Eregbu joins architect, tastemaker, and creator of Okpara House, Obi Nwazota, in conversation about his new book, “Nkemdiche – Why We Do Not Grow Beards.”
Okpara House creates beautiful books that reimagine the rich and vibrant Igbo folktales. Nkemdiche is an African folkloric tale spurred by a lack of African diasporic representation in children’s books. This imaginative narrative rooted in the author’s Igbo tribal culture creates a new narrative to normalize African origin stories by connecting our present to our past. Eregbu and Nwazota will talk about setting new standards in storytelling and image work relevant to African cultural assets with this beautifully illustrated book created in partnership with Chicago design studio, SPAN
