Alberto Aguilar and Alex Bradley Cohen: That

@ Compound Yellow

244 Lake St, Oak Park, IL 60302

Opening Friday, April 30th, from 5PM - 9PM

On view through Saturday, May 29th

“That”_ is an attempt by artists, Alberto Aguilar and Alex Bradley Cohen to create a place of rest inside of the Xsuburban at Compound Yellow. Alex and Alberto make work together through high energy play and improvisation so creating a sanctuary was a challenge.

“That”_ was created through a structure involving successively adding four layers of paint to each of the 10 custom panels made to fit the gallery. The artists carried each panel up and down a flight of steps from the gallery to the studio and back four times in order to add each layer. Through this restrictive structure and moderate struggle the artists hope that that their work has arrived at a restful place in which the viewer could enter. A mural to reflect the noise and energy of the street was painted on the exterior of the gallery. A performance by the artists will take place throughout the night.

Also on view in the YZ Galleries Until May 31, 2021:
This- an exhibition by Alberto Aguilar and Alex Bradley Cohen that explores the many ways that they need each other as human beings through collaborative drawing, painting, photography, sound, video, and performance.
