Line Dot is pleased to present new work by Marie-Claude Marquis and “It’ll Get Worse Before It Gets Worse Than Before” by Sean Hannaway.
This exhibition features ten hand embellished plates by artist Marie-Claude Marquis and ten paintings by artist Sean Hannaway.
Marquis is a multidisciplinary artist based in Quebec that utilizes found objects. Her inspiration is drawn from souvenirs, nostalgia and pop culture which converge to influence the creation her unique designs. Incorporating humor into the aesthetic of her work, Marquis is able to give new meaning to her stylized antique plates.
Hannaway is a Chicago born-and-based painter known for his punchy, densely layered style that blends high Renaissance subjects and graffiti aesthetics. The push and pull between his techniques, colors, and influences creates a dynamic tension in his work. A cheeky sense of humor pervades his practice, and is manifest in his use of plastic framed rococo-style mirrors from the 1960s as his canvases. Once obscured by layers of paint, the forms of the mirrors lose their gilded, gaudy essence and become graceful curves and flourishes that seamlessly blend into the final painting.
The opening reception is Saturday, October 24th from 6pm to 9pm at the gallery. Face masks and standard social distancing guidelines will be enforced.
