For more information please see our website or check out this Chicago Tribune article: https://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/daily-southtown/ct-sta-ent-union-gallery-0724-20200710-zqx6kscdtfdehbcfyeuemeeawa-story.html
Lies! How else to characterize the absurdist conspiracies and semantic puzzles that comprise Richard Medina’s paintings? His new paintings are layered with dense and droll references to mythology, history, and pop culture. He is interested in reinterpreting classic narratives through a contemporary perspective: creating work that is at once relevant and irreverent. By doing so, Medina deftly positions his anachronistic and paradoxical images at the forefront of today’s post-truth world.
Richard Medina is an artist, curator, and filmmaker based in Chicago, IL. He has exhibited at Gallery 400, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Project 1612, The Condo Association, and Roman Susan, among others. In 2016 Richard was awarded the Jeffrey Ahn, Jr. Fellowship. He serves on the board of directors for the nonprofit organization Terrain Exhibitions, and directed the Terrain Biennial 2019. He is currently seeking his BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2021). www.richardmedina.com
