Community lunch is an ongoing tradition at Mana Contemporary, where artists convene weekly to catch up, meet new people, and exchange ideas over lunch. Community director Sarah Khalid Dhobhany introduces two members from the Mana Contemporary community in conversation about what they are doing and creating during this time.
This week, artists James Jankowiak and Susannah Papish join us for lunch.
James Jankowiak’s current paintings and installations focus on color and familiar form as a means of communication in our daily environment, exploring intersections between color, visual rhythm, spirituality, and music. Jankowiak integrates contemporary art into social and emotional learning as a guide at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. His work has been commissioned by the Illinois Holocaust Center and the Chicago Transit Authority; and exhibited in Chicago, the Netherlands, and New York.
Chicago-based artist and curator Susannah Papish earned an MFA in painting and drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Papish is director of boundary, a project space located in her garage in Morgan Park. She has received grants from 3Arts, Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Illinois Arts Council; and exhibited throughout Chicago. Papish will represent boundary in the upcoming exhibition Artists Run Chicago 2.0.
