Community lunch is an ongoing tradition at Mana Contemporary, where artists convene weekly to catch up, meet new people, and exchange ideas over lunch. Community director Sarah Khalid Dhobhany introduces two members from the Mana Contemporary community in conversation about what they are doing and creating during this time.
This week, artists Cassie Tompkins and Stephanie Graham join us for lunch.
Cassie Tompkins is a Chicago-based artist working between printmaking and textiles, with a BFA in photography from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, and in visual communication design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has held residencies and awards at ACRE, Chicago Artist Coalition, Cleve Carney Art Gallery, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and Lillstreet Art Center. Tompkins has exhibited across Chicago, and is included in an upcoming exhibition at Hyde Park Art Center.
Stephanie Graham is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Chicago. Her work draws on her fascination with subcultures, social class, and relationships—and of course, being black. She holds a BA in cinematography and photography from Columbia College Chicago. In addition to her practice, Stephanie maintains a full-time gig working in film and television, and is currently on the crew of NBC’s Chicago PD.
