We are excited to welcome you to the Arts Bank Lawn for a special outdoor performance with Rebuild Foundation artists in residence the AACM Great Black Music Ensemble, led by acclaimed saxophonist Ernest Dawkins, with special guest Fareed Haque. This concert series is free and open to the public, but requires an RSVP through eventbrite. Capacity is limited, and all guests must wear face coverings and abide by social distancing while on the Arts Bank Lawn. We encourage guests to bring their own outdoor chairs or blankets to enjoy the show at a safe distance from one another.
About the AACM Great Black Music Ensemble:
As a premier performing group of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, Inc. (AACM), the Great Black Music Ensemble features some of Chicago’s most visionary artists of improvisation and creative music. An intergenerational ensemble ranging in size from three to thirty pieces, the Great Black Music Ensemble performs historical repertoire from the great pool of AACM composers. The Great Black Music Ensemble carries on the legacy of Chicago’s South Side creative music that made its place on the music history map by expressing the excitement of new sounds and rhythms, while invigorating the traditions of black music including funk, reggae, bebop, swing, and African and Caribbean styles.
Important reopening information:
After a prolonged hiatus, the Stony Island Arts Bank is reopening for outdoor programs only at this time. We are excited to welcome you back, however, capacity for all events will be extremely limited to encourage safe distancing between our neighbors and guests.
All programs will continue to be free, though RSVP through Eventbrite will be required for entry. In accordance with State and City protocols, all guests must wear a face covering to enter the premises.
We encourage all guests to bring their own chairs or blankets for safe and comfortable seating on the Arts Bank lawn. A limited selection of beverages will be available for purchase on-site.
For the health and safety of all, we will not be permitting access to the galleries or upper floors of the Arts Bank. Our restrooms will be accessible and sanitized regularly for the safety of all patrons.
