Join us for an evening with writers T KIRA MADDEN and ROWAN HISAYO BUCHANAN, who’ll discuss the Go Home! anthology, wherein Asian diasporic writers imagine “home” in the twenty-first century through an array of fiction, memoir, and poetry. Buchanan edited the anthology while Madden contributed to it.
Presented in conjunction with special exhibit “My America: Immigrant and Refugee Writers Today,” this program is part of the Jeanne M. & John W. Rowe program series, a series of conversations with leading contemporary writers about their latest work and their thoughts on themes of identity, home, belonging and the meaning of what it is to be American. Books will be sold and signed at the event.
T KIRA MADDEN’S debut memoir Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls is a story about trauma and forgiveness, families of blood and affinity, both crooked and beautiful. Her parents battled with drug and alcohol addictions, leaving Madden virtually alone to face a culture of assault and objectification. Madden is also featured in the anthology Go Home! which brings together Asian diasporic writers that showcases the intimacies of individuals figuring out what it means to belong.
ROWAN HISAYO BUCHANAN is a prolific writer of British, Japanese, Chinese and American Heritage. Editor of the Go Home! anthology, and author of Harmless Like You and Starling Days, her short work has appeared in several places including Granta, Guernica, The Guardian, The Harvard Review, and NPR’s Selected Shorts.
