Zine Making Workshop with April Sheridan
@ Gallery 400
400 S Peoria St, Chicago, IL 60607
Opening Saturday, February 1st, from 2PM - 4PM
Explore the wide world of independent publishing through this hands-on workshop that introduces the concepts, tools, and processes behind zine-making. Short for magazine or fanzine, a zine is a small-scale, self-published booklet of texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier. In this workshop, April Sheridan leads participants through exercises to design and produce their own zines on a variety of topics.
April Sheridan is a letterpress printer who is particularly interested in the artistic and experimental possibilities of the broadside and its historic place in American culture. For ten years she ran the letterpress printing, papermaking, and bookbinding studios at the Center for Book and Paper Arts at Columbia College Chicago. As an advocate for book arts education and self-publishing she has taught at Spudnik Press Cooperative, Naropa University, and has spoken at Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum Wayzgoose/Educators Conference and at St. Bride Library in London. She is currently the Special Collections Manager of the Joan Flasch Artists Book Collection at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
