For 2020, Rebuild Foundation is renewing a program activating the historic Johnson Publishing Company Collection, Reading the Black Library. Preserved from the headquarters of Johnson Publishing Company at 872 S. Michigan, the Johnson Library holds over 11,000 volumes of texts, including pre-published manuscripts, first editions, and rare titles. In partnership with IL Humanities, the Reading the Black Library program will include weekly public research hours, monthly workshops, discussion groups, readings and other community-driven activations of this significant collection of African-American heritage.

Please join us at the Stony Island Arts Bank for the launch of this program, featuring readings by Jonathan Holloway and avery r young, and a panel discussion moderated by Marcia McWilliams of the Black Metropolis Research Consortium.
