This program brings together two documentary stories about families navigating the complexities of gender across generational and cultural lines. Oli Rodriguez’s autobiographical documentary, Lyndale, returns to footage shot over a decade ago, tracing his brother’s struggles with mental illness alongside his own transition experience. André Pérez’s web series “America in Transition” profiles the experiences of trans people of color; in the episode A Family Matter, Pérez explores the mother-son dynamics of transitioning. Pérez and Rodriguez will appear to discuss their films and their experiences as trans filmmakers in Chicago. In Person: filmmakers Oli Rodriguez and André Alan Pérez
