Ground Level Platform is pleased to announce Strange Media, Eddie Lohmeyer’s first solo exhibition in Chicago.
Strange Media critically explores the relationship among nostalgia, play, as well as our cultural attitudes, identities, and perceptions of media artifacts. Through a series of sculptural, interactive, and video interventions, these works interrogate the body’s normal encounters with video games, computer interfaces, film, and toys such as LEGO building blocks. Each intervention employs strategies of defamiliarization to unravel our standard experiences of media through processes of appropriation, glitch, and assemblage. These uncanny interactions make apparent the ways in which media aim, enhance, or otherwise influence sense perception and our understanding of self and world.
