“This window installation includes several pieces from my recent series of sculptures consisting of animal skulls woven with pearls, beads, and other materials intended to add whimsy and personality to the beautiful surfaces of the skulls. The designs accentuate some of the best features of the raw material, calling attention to fissures that look like a winding riverbed, angular planes simulating glacier-carved rock, and cavernous eye openings. Repurposing the skulls into art turns them into precious objects. I want to honor the spirit of the animal, but I also hope the viewer will have fun and respond with a sense of humor or intrigue. In January 2014, a trip to Myanmar influenced my work with the addition of gold leaf on the skulls, changing impressions of and reactions to the pieces. More recent work involves other bones: leg, back, ribs or fragments. Copper leaf and larger installations evoke old west copper mines and archaeological digs.” — Sandra Wilcoxon
Exhibition is viewable from front window any time of day. Exhibition will be on display from September 20 – November 17.
