Please join us Thursday October 24th at 7:00 PM at the Gray Center Lab (929 E. 60th St) for a reading by Imani Elizabeth Jackson, a presentation of work by painter Emma Steinkraus, and a conversation with the artists. Pizza and refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

Imani Elizabeth Jackson is a poet working between text, performance, and food. Jackson’s writings appear in Flag + Void, HOLD, Triple Canopy, Apogee, and other places, and she has presented work in Chicago, New York, and Berlin. She is currently an MFA candidate at Brown University.

Emma Steinkraus is an artist, curator, and the visual arts editor of Company Journal. She is the recipient of an Iowa Arts Fellowship, a Hubbard Hutchinson Fellowship, and residencies at the Blue Mountain Center, Pyramid Atlantic, the Pajama Factory, and Cow House Studios in Ireland. Her work has been exhibited at 21c, the Susquehanna Art Museum, and the Williams College Museum of Art. She lives in Virginia where she is an Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Hampden-Sydney College.

Plexiglas is a platform for emerging poets and artists. Its mission is to promote conversation across disciplinary divides. Events pair writers with visual artists in the hopes of fostering connections across media and of facilitating new creative work. In conjunction with The Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry and the University of Chicago English Department, Plexiglas introduces the Chicago area to new voices and helps students to envision futures in the creative field.
