Chicago artist Peter Walsh exhibits his new series of paintings, “Seven Treasures,” inspired by traditional Japanese fabric patterns from the recent Art Institute of Chicago Ukiyo-e art show. Some of the original patterns are over 300 years old, but are as bold, graphic, and arresting as if they were created today — an intriguing jumping-off point for Walsh’s blend of abstract painting and hand-sewn canvas elements, recreating his own modern versions of Japanese kimono.
