Elizam Escobar: Apariciones
@ Pilsen Outpost
1637 W 18th St Chicago, IL 60608
Opening Friday, October 18th, from 6PM - 10PM
On view through Sunday, October 27th
It is our honor to present the work of contemporary Puerto Rican artist Elizam Escobar at Pilsen Outpost during the annual 18th Street Pilsen Open Studios.
Elizam is a painter, multi-faceted creator-artist, who is also a poet, teacher, and art-theorist. His art has been a part of Pilsen history through the exhibitions and work he did through community based gallery Calles y Sueños.
Elizam has been living and working as a professor at Puerto Rico’s only university-level art school, the Escuela de Artes Plásticas. He also teaches at the Art Students League in San Juan.
“Elizam Escobar (b. 1948) is one of the finest of Puerto Rican painters. In Elizamâs art you will see an intrinsic intimate relation between his poetry, his essays, and thinking. His very autobiographical art is based on the symbolic with elements of magical realism from a conceptual-existential aspect.”
Show runs: October 9th – 27th
OPENING RECEPTION: October 18th / 6-10pm
