Comfort Society is a weekly series that invites attendees to hear a lecture, participate in a workshop, discuss evocative topics, and learn something new every Sunday at 1pm during the farmer’s market. Comfort Society is proudly sponsored by Intelligentsia Logan Square. This weekend, we welcome Elizabeth Blasius for a talk on the Chicago Historic Resources Survey.

The Chicago Historic Resources Survey, or CHRS, is Chicago’s inventory of architecturally significant structures. Conducted between 1983 and 1995, the CHRS is the foundation of historic preservation policy in Chicago, yet its data is outdated and fails to protect modern and postmodern architecture, and leaves vernacular neighborhood structures regularly at risk for demolition.

Join architectural historian Elizabeth Blasius for an informal discussion on the CHRS, including the basics of the survey, how it is used, and how it relates to trends in property development and demolition, as well as its role in the maintenance of diverse and affordable housing stock in Chicago. The talk will highlight historic resources in Logan Square, including those that were not included in the survey.
