1963 Boycott
@ Harold Washington Library
400 S State St, Chicago, IL 60605
Opening Saturday, June 1st, from 2:30PM - 4PM
In 1963, 250,000 students boycotted Chicago Public Schools to protest racial segregation. ” ’63 Boycott,” a documentary from award-winning Kartemquin Films, combines previously unseen archival 16mm footage of the 1963 Chicago Schools Boycott with participants’ reflections today.
Join us for a screening of the 30-minute documentary, followed by a panel discussion about the interconnections between housing, education, race, and activism.
This event is part of “Chicago 1919,” a city-wide event series confronting the legacy of the 1919 race riots and their impact on housing, education, policing, and other forms of private and public life in Chicago today.
