@ Oliva Gallery

Opening Friday, May 17th, from 5PM - 10PM

Tamara Wasserman’s art is a continuum of gesture and image, of mark and figure, of transparencies and resemblances. In that continuum there is no separation between the “figurative” and the “abstract”. Elements of both of these (in Wasserman’s opinion) outdated categories are always present in her art.
The current series was developed through a process of choosing an element in a painting and using it as a focal point for the next one, transfering it to a different size, medium and mood, similar to opening a secret door that takes you into a room with a few other secret doors that open into more rooms with more secret doors.
Wasserman also believes that art making is somewhat related to time travel. We can go back to any moment in history and reuse it or recycle it by turning it into a starting point of a brand new piece of art.
