Solera Quartet performs Beethoven’s Op. 132 :
A Song of Thanksgiving by a Convalescent
Tricia Park (MFA in Writing at SAIC, 2019) will perform a one-hour concert with her ensemble, the award-winning Solera Quartet. Hailed by the New York Times as “intoxicating…a group that sees in musical mixology an opportunity for both new insight and full-bodied provocation,” the Solera Quartet will present Beethoven’s sublime String Quartet in A minor, Op. 132, a deeply personal work composed towards the end of his life, after a period of ill health.
The heart of this profound work is its third movement, entitled “a Holy Song of Thanksgiving to the Divinity by a Convalescent, in the Lydian mode.” The Solera Quartet will collaborate with Mark Booth, Assistant Professor in Writing and Sound to create a shared space experience of Beethoven’s monumental work, enhancing the inherently spiritual and contemplative nature of the music.
