Neal Vandenbergh: New Work 2016 – Present
@ Adler & Floyd
3537 S Western Blvd, Chicago, IL 60609
Opening Saturday, May 18th, from 7PM - 10PM
On view through Saturday, June 8th
The work in this show had a hard start a few days after January 1st 2016. For a variety of personal reasons I started making a lot more work and not really showing it to people or putting it on the Internet. It’s not everything made since then but there’s certainly a lot of it.
There will be selected paintings on cardboard and works on paper hung nicely on the walls and a table with several different series of drawings to look through. It’s different than the Old MFA af Discursive Party Boy brand Neal for sure. Big difference being all the work is figurative- young Nancy Reagan and young Margaret Thatcher are riffed on extensively, nasty oil pastel still lifes of president masks, fantasy drawings I made in bed, paintings of a guy leaning out his window staring at people walking on Ashland in Pilsen.
To further unprofessionalize this press release I want to say here that the drawings on the table are absolutely for sale and I’d like you to buy them. Since I don’t know any collectors I want to set prices that my friends can afford. Small drawings will be $60 and mediums will be $120.
