The Exposure Series is an annual residency designed to bring Chicago-based practitioners and audiences into contact with significant visiting artists working at the forefront of creative music whose work has previously been under-represented in this city. Exposure is built to encourage a significant exchange of ideas, approaches, and working methodologies that will have a long-term impact on both the local scene and the visiting artists.
For this year’s event, we follow up on the success of 2018’s ambitious program, which brought together six up-and-coming musicians, organizers, and activists from around the US. The 2019 program will feature three such artists, all of whom have limited exposure to Chicago as a creative center, and all of whom are voices to be reckoned with in improvised music; percussionist Claire Rousay (San Antonio), trumpeter Forbes Graham (Boston), and guitarist Ava Mendoza (Brooklyn).
