The Northwestern University Queer Pride Graduate Student Association is proud to host the 12th Annual Queertopia Conference, LGBTQ+ Media Cultures!

Entering its 12th year, Queertopia is an annual LGBTQ+ academic conference organized by Northwestern University’s Queer Pride Graduate Student Association. The conference features research across disciplines and fosters critical dialogue on topics related to gender and sexuality. Queertopia is an opportunity for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, undergraduates, activists, organizers, and community practitioners to build intellectual community. Queertopia will be held on Mar 2 (Saturday) at Kresge Hall (1880 Campus Dr, Evanston, IL 60208). Check-in and breakfast starts at 8AM and the conference is from 9AM to 5PM. An evening reception will be held at 6 to 8PM.

This year, the conference will explore the theme of LGBTQ+ Media Cultures, featuring scholarship from a wide range of disciplines on the topic of LGBTQ+ media, communication, and technology. Topics we will explore include LGBTQ+ representation across media platforms, the role of media in social change, queer technologies, the role of media in health and identity development, and learning with new media.

Queertopia features a morning keynote speech by Fran Tirado, Deputy Editor of OUT Magazine, co-host of Food 4 Thot, and one half of Hello Mr. The conference also features a film screening and panel discussion of Happy Birthday, Marsha! about iconic transgender artist and activist Marsha “Pay it No Mind” Marsha and her life in the hours before she ignited the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City. There will also be several panels featuring work of young and student researchers.

Register for FREE at bit.ly/queertopia2019. Registration includes breakfast, lunch, coffee, and food & drink at the reception.
We hope to see you there!
