Lecture presented by Shayna Connelly

Women have played an integral role in cinema from the beginning, but their achievements have not always been recognized. It’s time to set the record straight and credit the pioneering female filmmakers who changed cinema history. Filmmaker and DePaul professor Shayna Connelly invites you to learn about the female filmmakers who pushed the boundaries of cinematic form, starting with filmmakers such as Alice Guy-Blaché, Lois Weber and Germaine Dulac. Celebrate women’s history month with an introduction to the power and influence of these entrepreneurial women.

Featuring work from Alice Guy Blaché, Lois Weber, Germaine Dulac, Dorothy Arzner, Mary Ellen Bute, Leni Riefenstahl, Marie Menken, Maya Deren, Storm de Hirsch, Shirley Clarke, Carolee Schneemann, Yoko Ono, Chantal Akerman and Shirin Neshat.
