CANCELED: All Buttoned Up
@ The Button Museum, Busy Beaver Button Company
3407 W Armitage Ave, Chicago, IL, 60647
Opening Wednesday, February 13th, from 6PM - 8PM
Come with Atlas Obscura Society Chicago and explore the Busy Beaver Button Museum’s 40,000-piece button collection, co-curated by button-enthusiast siblings Christen and Joel Carter, which are categorized by themes ranging from Advertising to Politics to Social Lubricators and much in between.
There, you’ll learn about the history of celluloid buttons, which were invented in 1896, and hear stories about particular highlights of the collection which may include pieces dating back to George Washington’s inauguration in 1789. And, since it’s February, Christen (the owner of the Busy Beaver Button Company) will be on hand to share the history of the “I (heart)” button design and anecdotes about American presidential buttons over time.
Attendees will also get the opportunity to make a few buttons of their own to take home. For guests who are over 21, refreshments will be on hand from Hopewell Brewing and there will be Illustrated Cookies for everyone to enjoy.
