Moby Dick Read a Thon
@ Newberry Library
60 W Walton St, Chicago, IL 60610
Opening Saturday, January 19th, at 11AM
On view through Sunday, January 20th
We’ve got a whale of an event to inaugurate the 200th anniversary year of Herman Melville’s birth: a live marathon reading of his seminal work, Moby Dick.
During the 25-hour read-a-thon, a litany of reader-performers will bring the literary masterpiece to life one chapter at a time. Visitors are invited to anchor themselves at the Newberry for just a few minutes, or go overboard by staying for the entire reading!
This event is co-sponsored by Northwestern University Press. It is being held in conjunction with the opening of the Newberry’s exhibition “Melville: Finding America at Sea.”
**The read-a-thon is free to attend, and no registration is required. If you plan to attend Nathaniel Philbrick’s keynote address before the read-a-thon, please register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-enduring-power-of-moby-dick-tickets-50805514662
