Henry Voellmecke: Billow
@ Lillstreet Art Center
4401 N Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL 60640
Opening Friday, November 30th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Monday, December 31st
The opening for my solo exhibition, “billow” will be on Friday, November 30th in the textiles department at Lillstreet Art Center from 6–8pm.
Lillstreet Art Center offers creatives the opportunity to make flag-based artwork on its rooftop, easily viewable from the street and the Montrose Brown line stop. If you can’t make it to the opening, my flag installation will be up from November 16th through December 31st.
Artist Statement:
Flags serve as identifiers– location, sexual orientation, political affiliation and so on. While flags are typically abstract, it is nearly impossible to dissociate their connotations. By creating flags based on color interactions and formal, linear relationships, I intend to subvert representation by negating it altogether, thereby allowing the viewer to initiate their own context.
