Over the years I’ve sought more representations of long lasting, loving, healthy and happy sapphic or platonic relationships between women and themselves. While films and other media have spotlighted some unforgettable iconic female characters, most were often linked to men in some form or fashion, lacked diversity or devolved into some catty one-dimensional stereotype. Check out the Bechdel test* for how common the aforementioned phenomena is.
Since I could not find what I wanted to see, I created it. Here’s a carousel of characters that are variations of people I love and imagined. Life doesn’t look one particular way or style and in my random quirky universe, Quirklyn, the vastly different imagery reflects this thought. In this fun-sized oeuvre, you’ll find a celebration of Lesbians and Sapiosexuals in their many forms. They came, they came again and then they were here. Long live the Lesbians!
(*a method for evaluating the portrayal of women in fiction which asks whether a work features at least two women who talk to each other about something other than a man.)
