Sep 15th 2018

Let’s celebrate! On Saturday, September 15, join us on Chicago’s South Side to honor the ways in which South Siders and their communities have shaped the city’s creative legacy. “Celebrating South Side Stories” features free artmaking, live performances, and film screenings at cultural destinations across the South Side, with complimentary trolley transportation in between.

“Celebrating South Side Stories” is presented as part of Art Design Chicago, a citywide celebration of Chicago’s art and design history and impact on the city today with exhibitions, tours, talks, and more throughout 2018. The day begins with an opening celebration at the DuSable Museum of African American History and culminates in a musical performance inspired by South Side artists and activists, guided by musician and artist Maggie Brown and the Columbia College Jazz Ensemble. Find the full roster of programming here.

The Arts Bank will feature a day of performances and participatory programming exploring the legacy of Johnson Publishing Company and the effect its perspective of the black experience had on our community.
