Earlier this summer, we had the great and distinct pleasure of welcoming Chicago-based artist Carris Adams for a three-week residency at Spudnik Press Cooperative. During her time spent with us, Adams developed a new edition of prints based on a series of paintings inspired by signage found in the landscape that exists in multiples. This body of work stems from the artist’s investigation of visual markers of “domesticated space” (i.e. roads, residential structures, commercial structures, government buildings, cemeteries, advertisements, etc.) and the relational threads between ownership in marginalized spaces, politics, class, histories, celebration, and resilience.
On August 30, 2018, join us for an intimate gathering as we welcome Carris Adams back for a conversation about what drives her itinerant tendencies and unsettled curiosity in her art practice and how printmaking allowed her to further some if the ideas and aesthetic choices in her work, which up until recently was unchartered territory for this painter and drawer.
A casual reception is to follow, featuring a temporary installation of Adams’ prints created during her residency displayed alongside the paintings that inspired them. This event is free and open to the public.
