Friday’s events are free, open to the public, and wheelchair accessible.
All Friday events will be held at the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA), 4750 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago, IL. Parking is available in the lot directly across Sheridan Road from the ICA for $7.50. If you park in the lot, pay the staff at the ICA reception desk and give them your license plate number, and they’ll provide you with a parking sticker for your vehicle. Street parking also is available for $2/hour. The ICA is accessible by public transit, as well. Visit chicagozinefest.org for more information.
The weekend kicks off Friday, May 18th at 6:30 pm with the panel discussion: On Speaking Terms: Zines, Librarians and Communities
Librarians who collect zines care deeply for their communities. Come to hear a panel discuss how we acquire zines and why, how we shape our collections, the decisions we make every day, and ways that we share zines on ordinary days and through special events. What do we think about libraries and zines today and for the future?
Featuring local zinester and Chicago Public Library employee Oscar Arriola, Doro of the School of the Art Institute’s Zine Collection, Milo from Queer Zine Archive Project (QZAP), and moderated by the University of Chicago’s zine archivist, Sarah G. Wenzel. There will be a Q&A to follow. This panel is sponsored by the University of Chicago Library.
Friday night keeps going at 8 pm with our annual Exhibitor Reading. Zine creators exhibiting at this year’s festival will share stories as entertaining as they are moving. Reading starts at 8 p.m. and features performances by …
