ChiDM Presents: Chaz Evans “Mapping the Mediascape: the Politics of Chinese Software Art”

Chaz Evans, Director of Exhibitions and Programs and Co-Founder of Video Game Art Gallery, will discuss the work of Hey! Play! participating artist Feng Mengbo as well as the work of Cao Fei. The talk will contextualize both artists and their works in terms of Arjun Appadurai’s “scapes,” illustrating how the work of both function as video game art signifying specific qualities of Chinese identity as well as expressions vast global cultural flow.
Evans is an artist, educator, art historian, and curator working at Northwestern University. He has taught courses on creative programming, web art, moving image art, and games. He holds an MA in art history and an MFA in New Media Art from University of Illinois at Chicago.
ChiDM Presents is a semi-monthly event series within Hey! Play! Games in Modern Culture. All events are free and open to the public, and held at the Chicago Design Museum on the 3rd floor of Block 37.
